Welgevonden Reserve

Filter By properties

Welgevonden Private Game Reserve is a 36 000 hectare malaria-free private reserve situated in the Waterberg plateau, 2 hours north of Johannesburg. All the lodges have unlimited traversing through the entire reserve and get to experience an environment where biodiversity conservation and game viewing are managed in harmony.

Welgevonden means ‘well found’ and is a place of rare and rugged beauty, plentiful wildlife and prolific birdlife. The combination of spectacular scenery and good game viewing make Welgevonden a very special place to experience an african safari. To visit here is to experience the spirit of a true bygone wilderness.

Welgevonden is home to over 50 different mammals, including the Big Five, and boasts one of the largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve anywhere in Africa. There are rare and unusual species too, such as brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark – which are best seen at night. Sections of large grass-covered plains are home to a number of different antelope species; the largest being eland and the smallest the diminutive duiker. Cheetah, lion and leopard are attracted by the numbers of prey species and good sightings are common. It is the diversity of habitat on the reserve that encourages such a wide range of wildlife as well as over 250 bird species, including rare blue cranes.

This wilderness area offers an exclusive, intimate experience of the African bush with only a limited number of guests having access to the reserve at any one time. Private vehicles are not allowe, which ensures minimal impact and a wonderful wilderness experience. Historically, wildlife on the reserve has never been hunted so game viewing is always up close and personal. Welgevonden also boasts ancient and delicate Bushman rock art  to comliment the wildlife.

Welgevonden is amountain bushvled paradise with rivers running through it and sweeping views to far horizons. This is one of the finest places to watch wildlife, sense wilderness and be a part of true Africa.
