Elephant Coast

The Elephant Coast is an exciting tourism destination stretching from St Lucia and Maphelana in the south to Kosi Bay in the north, across to the Lubombo mountains in the west and includes the renowned Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park.

This unique safari destination combines the best of both land and marine natural environments. The Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park and Lake St Lucia have been under formal conservation since 1895, and in 1999, the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park was inscribed as South Africa's first World Heritage Site.

Key cultural sites such as Border Cave, Ghost Mountain, Dingane's Grave and the 700 year-old fish traps at Kosi Bay, point to a rich cultural history which you are invited to explore.

In the far north-west of the Elephant Coast, there is a point where South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique meet. Initiatives, such as the creation of the Lubombo Route, are underway to establish closer links between our three countries to make travelling in this broader tourism region easier.

The wide range of accommodation facilities on the Elephant Coast will ensure that you find a place to suit your holiday budget. We invite you to take part in the wide range of nature-based and cultural activities available throughout the area. Our spectacular natural and cultural diversity await you.
